Do you have your jacket?
Dear Friends, this is a typical uniform for me when taking nature photographs in Crex or other places, from sturdy boots to sunglasses at all times. These items are necessary to stay warm and dry, the missing items in this image are a tripod and cap. On colder days a hooded sweatshirt and jeans, on warmer days i lose the sweatshirt, My father always said before we left the house, ” do you have your jacket”, lesson learned. Now if i could only teach my husband to bring a jacket because the weather can change so quickly and drastically especially in the spring. So do you have your jacket? til Tomorrow MJ
Golden Eye
Dear Friends, this golden eye duck was in the Canal at Duluth Minnesota, they are diving ducks and probably are after mussels similar to the Eider. I love the standing wave in front of him shows that he was swimming very fast and his water drip says he just came up from a dive into the waters of the canal . The water is icy so I am glad to stand on the ground, til Tomorrow MJ
Another Snowy
Dear Friends, been out chasing the birdies that have stayed this winter or have arrived from the north, NW Wisconsin and Northern Minnesota is their south for the winter. This Snowy Owl is perched on a light stand near the Walmart in Superior but one of my friends, doesn’t like owls on a post, so i edited it out 🙂 . I love the eyes. til Tomrrow MJ
Eider eider eider
Dear Friends, this Eider duck (female) is hanging out with the mallards, pintails and gulls in the shipping canal of Duluth harbor. What is she doing here, she doesn’t eat french fries, cheetos or bread that people are throwing out on the water, she eats mussels, swallowing them whole and sitting out while her crop crushes the shells and digests the contents. Maybe the influx of zebra mussels into Lake Superior is attracting the mussel eaters, cause the golden eyed ducks are also active at this site. til Tomorrow MJ
Red-Headed Duck
Friends, fall is here in all her splendor and ducks are arriving daily. This lone male red-headed duck was found north of us on Lake Superior. Hope his friends are somewhere around cause he was hanging out with some mallard females. I think this image is an example of how light can change a good image into a better than average image, or dare i say great image. The reflections of the fall foliage in the water helps to set off the duck colors, but what do you think? til Tomorrow MJ
Then There were Three in a Tree
Friends, sorry for the alliteration, i couldn’t resist. The cedar waxwings are migrating thru Duluth Mn on the shores of Lake Superior. This dead birch tree made a handy lookout for these three, they didn’t stay for long, just long enough for me to photo. The bird in the middle is an immature but still has the yellow tip on the tail. The little round red blob is a berry that the right bird dropped when he landed til Tomorrow MJ
