Screamin Eagle

screaming eagleFriends, on my way to Hawk Ridge last week, i found a family of Bald Eagles in the trees along the road, they all flew away, but this one stayed to visit with me for awhile.  While sitting there, he yawned, but in this image he looks like he is screaming.  The leaves are almost gone up north, so now we can see the birds.  til Tomorrow MJ

Flying Above Me

bald eagle in flightFriends, this mature bald eagle flew over my lawn chair while i was sitting on hawk ridge waiting for the raptor migration. This was a wonderful warm sunny day and now the weather has changed to cold, snow and wind.  Maybe we will get a very short Indian summer to enjoy the end of the raptor migration.  til Tomorrow MJ

Fall Along the Amnicon River

the amnicon river fallFriends, still exploring the Amnicon River and found this sweet little Maple tree trying to turn into fall colors.  After our snow storm of yesterday, the leaves have probably fallen like the leaves on the far bank, camera club meeting tonight and our theme is fall colors. guess i will take this one along. til Tomorrow MJ

Footbridge

ridge at amnicon hdrFriends, again at Amnicon Falls State Park and this time under the foot bridge with a very mixed bag of light, some of the water in shade and some in bright sunlit spots.  A perfect situation for an HDR work.  I couldn’t get all the shaded rocks and the sunlit water proper exposures without the HDR tool.  HDR stands for high dynamic range and combines the exposures of three images, the first image is shot with optimum exposure, then one image overexposed for dark detail, and the third image with underexposure for the water highlights.  I like this, i might hang it on the wall. til Tomorrow MJ

The Neon Woods

neon woods2Friends, i get tired of the same old fall foliage images of pretty leaves and trees, so i was playing last night and came up with this.  An abstract with a painterly effect.  It is half a cup of motion blur, half a cup of paint spatter and a pinch of masking to reveal the details, is it a recipe worth keeping? that is the question til Tomorrow MJ

His Environment

begging grebe young grebeFriends, this baby pied billed grebe is begging food from his mom, and in the bottom image he is grown and no longer using the lily pads for cover.  Now he is swimming on the big water and getting his own food.  I love these little birds as they are always around on Phantom Lake, constantly fishing for food.  I am experimenting (again) with a crop that includes his water trail and his eye.  Do you like this kind of crop? til Tomorrow MJ

Fall at the Falls

upper falls amniconFriends, no I didn’t fall down, but yesterday was a lovely leaf-viewing day and again we went to Amnicon State Park to watch the rushing water of the Amnicon River.  I think this would make a great print, will try to print in the future, thanks JimE for the wonderful day, til Tomorrow MJ

Snake Pit Falls

snake pit fallsFriends, today we visit Snake Pit falls within the Amicon State Park.  This was a two-second exposure to blur the water yet keep the shady stones also with some detail.  I am experimenting with running water landscape photos.  A touch of fall in the leaves was also present. til Tomorrow MJ

Upper Falls

upper fallsFriends, again from Amicon SP these are part of the upper falls, now how lame is that name?, I think it should be called Erratic Falls for the two boulders that lie in the river bed, dropped by the mighty hand of a glacier, eons ago.  I think that the water in the back should be more silky looking, maybe i will work on that with photoshop.  The water is really red appearing as the sandstone underneath is red.  This was taken from a covered bridge that allows one to shoot from the middle of the river, a lower viewpoint would have put me in the middle of the next falls, danger. til Tomorrow MJ

At Amicon River

Friends, went looking for fall foliage yesterday and headed for the Amicon River in northern Wisconsin.  I love retirement when I can go to work in the northwoods, searching for running water and fall foliage on a warm day in October.  The only thing that would improve this would be to have a companion along in case i fall into the water.  But I am pretty careful when i am out alone and always find the pretty spots to photo.  I will be out again today. til Tomorrow MJsitting by the amicon
