Storm on the Horizon

storm compFriends,his storm was photographed in May when the girls and i visited the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  We are heading there again on Sunday to sit among the hoodoos and maybe a hike into the petrified forest.  Hot weather is predicted so maybe we will have a rest and relaxation with photo runs at sunrise and sunset. til Tomorrow MJ

Friends, this is a picture of my friend at sunset, she is also shooting the sunset.  We girls went to the badlands in the last week of May and had a glorious trip.  When in the North Dakota Badlands you can often have the whole hillside to yourself.  I shouted at her to turn around to see what was happening behind her, 🙂  til Tomorrow MJ

Friends, this shy fellow is one of the foals of the wild ones in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  I love his bald face and his mane standing up on end.  He was curious but very shy.  til Tomorrow MJ

Badlands Flicker

Friends, this Northern Flicker is hanging out in the North Dakota badlands on a rock covered with lichens.  I was surprised to see him out in the open on the prairie dog town, no trees on the prairie.  til tomorrow MJ

Sunset in the Badlands

Friends, yes there are trees in the North Dakota Badlands.  These cottonwoods are along the Little Missouri River near Medora and the cedar and junipers are on north-facing slopes..  At sunset. the mule deer bucks head over the hill.  Hope you like the sunset in the badlands. til Tomorrow MJ

It’s all in the Name

Friends, these red rocks are called scoria in North Dakota, but they are also called clinker.  They are very fragile and break into pieces when dropped or otherwise subjected to blunt force trauma.  It is formed from layers of bentonite clay being baked by a burning coal vein hence it official name, porcelinite. The formation of a china cup in the badlands of North Dakota. til Tomorrow MJ

Mystery

mystery portraitFriends, someone asked for more horse close-ups from the wild ones in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  This is Mystery, a black stallion with a small star on his forehead.  His band was featured in the thunderhead bog of a few days ago.  enjoy til Tomorrow MJ

Copper

Friends, the horses run wild in the badlands within the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  This beautiful stallion is named Copper, and he was a herd sire of the wild ones.  This year he appeared alone, no mares or foals following him around.  They say he is injured and I hope he survives cause he is a pretty boy.   til Tomorrow MJ
