Weekly Photo Challenge:Masterpiece
Friends, this tall ship, the Sorlandet, is truly a masterpiece in workmanship. She is 210 feet in length and looks smaller than most because its sails are safely tucked away . When this fully rigged ship has all sails out and full of wind, she should be quite impressive. But during the parade she sailed in without sails. The crew did display her flags and these were pretty flying on the breezes. So I am showing you one of the three tall ships of Norway. til Tomorrow MJ
Tall Ship Parade
Friends, this ship was the first tall ship to enter the Duluth Harbor yesterday in the Parade of Tall Ships. She is the Pride Of Baltimore and that is written on the yellow flag flying from the top of her mast. Jim and I were able to ride aboard this ship in 2010 and she is truly a very fast ship. You can see in this image that she leans away from the wind when her sails are full. Love the tall ships. til Tomorrow MJ
Tall Ship Day
Friends, I am very excited today we are going to Duluth to photograph the tall ship parade as 10 ships enter the Duluth harbor from the mighty Lake Superior. This is an image of the Niagara as it entered the canal marked by the little lighthouse in 2011. Lots of history concerning the war of 1812 is connected to many of these ships and I hope to be in this same spot today to photo their entry. In 2010 we had 12 ships for the festival, but in 2011 and 2012 only 2-3 ships were present for the show. In 2011 you can see the weather was less than favorable, but today dawned bright and cheerful so good images may be possible. til Tomorrow MJ
Superior Ice
Friends, just returned from up north as we say here when we venture northward, Lake Superior and the west shores are considered up north and highway 61 is north shore drive, altho it is along the west shore. I could not resist these giant icicles hanging from the boulders at Stony Point Beach. So I will share them with you, til Tomorrow MJ
Waiting
Friends, these Trumpeter Swans are waiting, patiently for the snow and ice to melt, I am not so patient, I go to the Meadows in expectation to find nothing new, bummer, maybe i will have to visit elsewhere to find some action, maybe the waves on Lake Superior will talk to me about spring, but last time i visited there, the waves were washing in the ice shards, sharp and glasslike panes, having family for Easter, so I guess cleaning house is the order of the day, til Tomorrow MJ
Icy Textures
Friends, this icy scene is a black and white of a previous image that i showed you in color, I am practicing black and white conversions of colored images, however, in the winter most of the images that are taken are probably more accurately rendered in black and white. Not much color in nature in the winter here. Frustrates me no end. I will have to settle for icy textures this morning, til Tomorrow MJ
Icy Lake Superior
Friends, this image of Icy Lake Superior was taken where the surfers, a few days ago were enjoying open water, now it is frozen and slivers of ice cover the bay. Part of this image is my new header and it will remain at the head of my posts until I see the green of spring, a little rebellion from the photographer who is pretty sick of winter, til Tomorrow MJ
Stoney River
Friends, this snow covered landscape is the stoney river of northern Minnesota. You can see how it got its name, and the beautiful frosty morning when we flew by on Hwy 1 from Lake Superior to Ely Minnesota. I made the husband stop so I could venture back across the bridge to shoot pictures, you like??, I do, maybe a print for my wall, til Tomorrow MJ
