Pink and White
Friends, not a spectacular image but a softer feel to this pink and white. I think these are dogbane, what an awful name for a sweet little bloom, these are about 1/2 inch and this branchful were about 2 inches across. Some of the blooms are out of the focus range but i like the softness. Not sure i like all the stems near the bottom, what do you think? til Tomorrow MJ
Weekly Photo Challenge:Fresh
Friends, this macro photo is the inside of a wild morning glory or bindweed. Peering over the edge of the near petal and focused on the back petal. I like the fresh abstract feel to this image, just hinting at the softness within. til Tomorrow MJ
Nature Colors
Friends, sometimes the colors of nature clash horrendously like the pink, orange and deep green of this image, so changing it to a black and white might help. Which do you like? black and white or colors, or a little color added to the black and white, hmmm maybe just leave nature’s colors as they are?? this image is of a skipper butterfly perched on a common milkweed and sipping soda thru a straw enjoy til Tomorrow MJ
Wood Lilies
Friends, these wood lilies are such a brilliant hue that I had to turn down the saturation a bit, I know I rarely turn the saturation down, it is usually turned up a bit, but the colors are very bright and I felt that subduing the orange a bit would help the details. I wished to emphasize the centers of these three flowers, so in processing, I straightened the right hand flowers, then cropped so that two centers are in the sweet spots, rule of thirds positioning, These are wild flowers growing in Crex Meadows and they are at their peak bloom right now. The wild lily has an open bottom where the petals come off the stem. The domestic lily is fused at the bottom of the petals, your natural history lesson for the day. til Tomorrow MJ
Morning Glory
Friends, this wildflower of Crex Meadows is a Field Bind Weed, but I don’t like any name that calls a beautiful flower, a weed. It is a member of the morning glory family and it grows wild in Crex. This flower blooms from a tough red stem that tends to wrap itself around surrounding plants and eventually choke them off thus making room for more glories. As a herb it is drastic and sometimes poison, but despite its sinister nature, they are beautiful. til Tomorrow MJ
Flower Details
Friends, I am editing some flower images from our badlands trip this spring. I cannot decide whether I like the grainy image at the top or the bottom softer version of this image. Which do you like the best? Either way I think the bottom treatment is a way to reduce the grainy noise that i sometimes get in my images or maybe i am going in circles. In the bottom image I have softened the details then run the Nik Colorefex Low Key filter. In the top image I have run the Low Key filter directly over the Extract Detail filter. I think that there is a dramatic difference. Hmmmm, a constant learning process til Tomorrow MJ
Prairie Smoke
Friends, this tiny flower is commonly called prairie smoke and when the flowers are in this red phase, the name is not appropriate, but when the prairie is covered with the exploded seed head as in the image below, one can see the resemblance to smoke rising from the grasses. til Tomorrow MJ
Fresh Phlox
Friends, we are journeying back to Crex Meadows today to show you this pretty little flower, this is wild prairie phlox that is blooming all over Crex this month. I like the color, wild violet will fade to a pink as the flower is exposed to the sunshine. But when it first blooms it is a lovely deep shade, enjoy til Tomorrow MJ
Vetch
Friends, this little vetch is greeting the morning with a purple glow, I am experimenting with a foggy blurred attitude, but the sun is shining so I guess i will venture outdoors and go look for some birdies, til Tomorrow MJ
Blue as in Flowers
Friends, my personal theme today is blue, as in tiny blue flowers, these penstemon grow right out of red rock and are a challenge for a photographer with bad knees, til Tomorrow MJ
