The Search for the Blue Karner
Friends, the Blue Karner butterfly is rare even in Crex Meadows. This tiny blue butterfly is about the size of a nickel, and has distinctive markings on the back side of the wings. My friend and I have searched many places for this lovely blue and never found them until I retired up north. Now every year I go in search of them partially to renew old times and to reassure myself that they are still there. This one is for Cheri til Tomorrow MJ

Something so beautiful, yet quite unaware of its beauty, is one of the wonders of our world. Thanks for sharing.
exquisite 🙂
These butterflies are being endangered by the frac sand mining operation in both MN and WI. It is a sad thing.
these butterflies have always been endangered, there is no cause and effect in your statement
You are right. I mis-typed. The frac sand industry isn’t helping matters though. http://www.wisconsinwatch.org/2012/01/31/frac-sand-miners-failing-to-check-for-rare-butterfly/
