Ten petal mentzelia

After thanksgiving back to the badlands where this lovely bloom reminds me of warmer days. This bloom does have ten petals and only opens late in the afternoon and in the evening. This plant grows out of the scoria cause it needs selenium. Enjoy til tomorrow Mj

The old warrior

This old boy has many broken times in his antlers. At one time he was the ruler but now is sick and lonely. Lying in the sage on a riverbank, he appeared at sunset to make our photo day complete. Til tomorrow Mj

Over the top

Sometimes when an argument starts The participants need to argue over the top of other cranes

The homestead

My mother was born and raised on this flat above the little Missouri River. Now it is the cottonwood campground in Theodore Roosevelt National park. I so enjoy roaming this area where my mother played and rode her horse years ago. til tomorrow Mj

Sunset moon

Cranes coming in to the meadow with the setting sun and the rising moon.

Bald Eagles

These lovebirds were struggling to stay on that branch in yesterday’s wind. I could barely see them because the sun was in my eyes but I trusted the blue tracking box that focuses the eyes. This eye tracking feature of this camera is very effective and this fall I am seeing more eyes than I ever have. Til tomorrow Mj

More antlers

When this 10 Point buck got near us he stood behind a small pile of scoria. He blended in well with the gray wall behind him. if we hadn’t seen him cross the golden grasses we surely would not have seen him in his hiding place. Til tomorrow Mj

Ready for takeoff

If you ever watch the cranes in the morning on their roost site, you will notice that they all straighten the neck and lean forward in the direction they are going to fly away. My new camera has eye tracking and it is very effective at focusing the eye especially on a moving subject. Til tomorrow Mj

Mule deer doe

This mule deer doe is peeking out from the sage to wish you a happy morning. I don’t just photograph bucks, but also the little creatures in theBadlands. I could crop this on the left side at the bottom, a little bit to emphasize her eye. Til tomorrow Mj
